A Special Journey with HongTeck Lyon

Today, I’d like to share a special part of my personal journey — a meaningful and memorable experience with HongTeck Lyon, a lion dance organization based in Lyon, France.

HongTeck Lyon is more than just a typical lion dance troupe. It is a branch of a well-established organization originally from Malaysia, dedicated to spreading the beauty of lion dance and preserving Asian cultural heritage — right in the heart of France. I joined HongTeck Lyon in my first year alongside a few friends, and the experiences since then have been nothing short of unforgettable.

Through HongTeck Lyon, I didn’t just learn lion dance techniques from our experienced seniors. I also trained physically, practiced playing cymbals, drums, and other instruments — essential elements that bring the performances to life. Every Lunar New Year, we travel together to perform in different cities across France, such as Marseille, Nice, and more, bringing joy and festive spirit to local communities.

But more than the performances and training, what makes HongTeck Lyon truly special is the sense of belonging it offers. It has given me a second family. Together, we share laughter, hard work, and support for one another in every circumstance. Being a part of this group has allowed me to connect with my cultural roots in a deeply personal and fulfilling way.

In the 2nd year, I also had the chance to contribute to building the official website for our lion dance team. Using Wix as our platform, I helped design the site and worked on parts of the front-end development. It was a fun and creative project that I’m proud to have contributed to.
